Christmas light installation is a service where a professional crew hangs your holiday lights, keeps them working through the season, and takes them down in January. EverGlow Exteriors offers it across the Des Moines metro — Urbandale, Waukee, Clive, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, and beyond. Quotes are free, based on your roofline length and the design you want, and most come back the same day you text us.

Here’s the part most people learn the hard way: the lights aren’t the hard part. The hard part is a two-story roofline in a 25-degree December wind, a ladder on frozen ground, and a strand that goes dark two days before your in-laws show up. We handle all of that. You get the glow without ever touching a ladder.

“Nobody’s dream December includes an afternoon on an icy roof.” — the EverGlow Exteriors crew

What’s included with our Christmas light installation

Every install covers the full season, start to finish: the lights go up clean and straight, they stay working through December, and they come down in January without you lifting a finger. Here’s what that looks like:

  • Commercial-grade lights or your own. We can supply bright, tough commercial-grade lights cut to fit your roofline, or hang the strands you already own. Ask about both when you get your quote — we’ll tell you the honest trade-offs.
  • Roofline clips, not staples. Clips grip your shingles and gutters without punching holes in them. Staples leave rust marks and tiny leaks. We don’t use them.
  • Mid-season fixes. If a section goes dark in December, call us. We come back and fix it. That’s part of the job, not an upsell.
  • January takedown. We take everything down after the holidays, coil it properly, and pack it in labeled storage boxes so next year starts easy.

Why book in September or October?

Because the calendar fills from the front, and the front has the best weather. Install crews across the metro book up fast once the first cold snap hits, and the families who called in September get their lights up on dry shingles in 55-degree October sun. The ones who call after Thanksgiving get whatever dates are left — usually colder, sometimes icier.

Iowa gives us a short, sweet install window. October and early November mean dry roofs, warm hands, and daylight to work with. By late November, freeze-thaw cycles start glazing rooflines and shortening our workdays. Booking early isn’t a sales trick. Better conditions just mean a cleaner-looking install.

Who’s actually on your roof?

The same crew that’s been on Des Moines metro ladders and rooftops all year. We clean windows, wash houses, and clear gutters for a living, so working safely at height is our normal Tuesday — not a once-a-year gamble with a borrowed ladder. EverGlow Exteriors is a fully insured LLC, and a certificate of insurance is available any time you ask.

That matters more than it sounds. Most holiday ladder falls happen to homeowners doing a job they do once a year. Hiring it out isn’t lazy. It’s smart.

How much does Christmas light installation cost in Des Moines?

Every quote is custom, because every roofline is different. Price depends on how many feet of roofline you want lit, how tall the house is, and the design you pick — so we don’t publish a flat rate. Lights quotes aren’t on our price sheet for that reason. The quote itself is free: text us your address and what you’re picturing, and most quotes come back the same day.

Where do you hang Christmas lights?

All over the Des Moines metro. We’re based in Urbandale and run routes through Waukee, Clive, West Des Moines, Grimes, Ankeny, Johnston, and Des Moines itself. Not sure if you’re in range? Check the full list on our service areas page or just text us — if you’re near the metro, we probably come to you.

One more thing worth knowing: fall is also gutter season, and we’re already at your house with ladders. Ask about gutter cleaning when you book — we can clear your gutters on the same visit, so your downspouts flow all winter and your lights sit on clean gutters.

Christmas light questions we get a lot

When should I book Christmas light installation?

September or October, ideally. Booking runs September through November, and the calendar fills from the front — the earliest calls get the best install dates and the best weather. You can still call in November, but the good slots go fast.

Do you take the lights down after Christmas?

Yes. January takedown is part of every install. We take the lights down, coil them properly, and pack them in labeled storage boxes so next season starts organized instead of tangled.

What if a bulb or section goes out in December?

Call or text us and we’ll come fix it. Mid-season fixes are included with the install — if a section goes dark, that’s our problem to solve, not yours. You shouldn’t be on a ladder in December, and with us, you won’t be.

Can you install lights we already own?

Yes. If your strands are in good working shape, we can hang them with proper roofline clips. We’ll also give you an honest read on whether they’ll last the season — and quote commercial-grade lights as an option so you can compare. Ask about both.

How long does the install take?

It depends on the house — roofline length, height, and how detailed the design is. A simple single-story roofline goes quickly; a tall two-story with peaks and trees takes longer. We’ll give you a time estimate with your free quote, and you don’t need to be home while we work.
